Q: Let's take it back to the beginning: can you tell us the story of your business's first month?

A: CONTEXT Studios produces cinema-quality documentaries that capture the essence of an individual’s life story, entrepreneurial journey, or family enterprise legacy. Filmed in a single day and presented in an engaging, episodic format on a secure, private Netflix-style platform, these films are designed to be treasured and shared for generations.

In our first month, I focused on establishing a clear, compelling foundation: a premium brand grounded in legacy. Drawing on three decades in public relations, I refined our message to communicate not only what we do but why it matters.

I engaged leaders and influencers within my network, converting early champions into our first clients. Recognizing a natural alignment with multigenerational business families, I established a strategic partnership with Family Enterprise Canada— an organization where preserving legacy is at the heart of everything they do. Every interaction was purposeful, focused on building trust and positioning CONTEXT Studios as a lasting investment in legacy, with long-term value that often surpasses what clients can initially imagine.

To reflect the calibre of our work, I enhanced our digital presence and shared excerpts from early documentaries on our website, offering a glimpse into the emotional depth and craftsmanship we deliver. At the same time, I began to prepare for the December launch of our CEO Documentary offering—further establishing CONTEXT Studios as the trusted Canadian leader in high-end, cinematic legacy storytelling.

Q: When was there a time that an experience changed your life and your perspective of it?

A: One of the most profound experiences of my life was facing —and conquering—a lifelong fear of heights during a heli-hiking trip with CMH in British Columbia. The adventure took me across soaring mountain ridges, over rushing glacial meltwater via suspension cables, through vibrant alpine meadows, and up Mt. Nimbus by way of a via ferrata—a secured climbing route with fixed cables, ladders, and suspension bridges.

Starting two weeks before the climb, I worked closely with a tapping coach and a hypnotherapist to reframe this fear I’d carried since childhood. Through daily hypnosis and emotional freedom techniques, I prepared myself mentally for what lay ahead. And once I set foot on the mountain, I never looked back.

The Mt. Nimbus via ferrata is no small feat. Spanning 2.5 kilometers with a 600-metre elevation gain, our full-day ascent took us over sheer rock walls, across a 60-metre suspension bridge hanging 600 metres above the valley floor, up granite peaks, and finally down a 300-metre assisted rappel on a vertical rock face. Each step demanded unwavering focus, strength, and trust—in myself, my guides, and the journey itself.

What ultimately transformed me wasn’t just reaching the summit—it was the shift in mindset I embraced long before setting foot on the mountain. I let go of the notion that success is solely about reaching the top and instead learned to embrace the journey—the resilience, presence, and steady progress required along the way. This climb became a powerful metaphor for leadership: navigating uncertainty, managing risk, and finding strength with each deliberate step.

If you’re ready to challenge yourself with a truly unforgettable experience—exploring canyon trails, touching ancient glaciers, plunging into crystalline alpine lakes, or clipping in for a via ferrata climb—I’d highly recommend this adventure.

I’ve shared my experience in a four-part LinkedIn series, and for a lighter take, here’s Rick Mercer’s entertaining segment on his climb.

Q: What is your biggest challenge right now, and what drives you to keep going?

A: We’re creating something entirely new: bespoke, premium documentaries that capture the essence of personal life stories, entrepreneurial journeys, and family enterprise legacies. We’re not simply creating cinema-quality films—we’re building a new category in legacy preservation.

This distinctiveness is our greatest strength. It’s also our greatest challenge.

Like any category-defining offering, we’re in the pivotal phase of crossing the chasm—moving from early adopters who instinctively grasp the long-term value of legacy storytelling to a broader, more pragmatic audience that requires deeper engagement and proof of impact to fully appreciate its significance.

At its core, our work is about helping individuals, families, and business leaders recognize that their story is not only worth telling—it is a cornerstone of the legacy they leave behind. As we bridge the gap between these two audiences, our mission remains clear: to elevate and preserve the moments, values, and achievements that define an individual or an enterprise. Legacy isn’t something we define in hindsight—it’s something we capture with intention. And there’s no better time to start than now.

Q: Bonus: Have you been featured in any recent articles that we can give a shout out to?
